Transform a dark house into a bright dwelling
Tips for house sellers
Home sellers very often wonder what they can do to improve the way their home for sale looks to buyers. Of course there are some tips home owners can follow to improve the image of the house and attract the interest of potential buyers.
One of the first things buyers look at is the light the apartment gets. A professional home stager would certainly advise to enhance the natural light the property gets, to show how comfortable a life in that space can be. If you feel your house is dark, well, this problem can be fixed easily: walls, ceilings and floors might be painted with light hues and heavy curtains might be replaced by lighter fabrics.
In order to enhance natural light you could also improve interior reflectivity. Avoid glossy finishes. Use matt finishes which reflect light in all directions. Don’t cover walls with dark paintings or posters: they would absorb light.
Try to reduce light obstructions from furniture. Objects in the rooms should be oriented as to promote the flow of daylight. Put bookshelves and partitions perpendicularly to the window wall. The light coming inside from the top of a window should not be blocked by heavy blinds or drapery.
Venetian blinds provide solar control and allow redirecting the sunlight to the ceiling. Sunlight can also be enhanced by strategically placing light fixtures such as indirect lighting.
If your apartment appears dark even after having put into practice these simple tips, don’t worry! There might be buyers interested in finding an apartment with dark areas…
