Affordable real estate investments in the region of Salento
In the charming Grecia Salentina, there are many old palaces in need of renovation for sale
The region of Salento – in southern Apulia – is widely known for being a region of magic, a colourful and lively area that welcomes its visitors with joy and familiarity.
Its idyllic countryside with dry-stone walls, cornfields, prickly pears, olive trees and vineyards enchants those who spend their holidays in the nice villages of Grecía Salentina and after having experienced the enthralling atmosphere of the region want to relocate in the silence of ancient rural buildings.
The real estate market of Salento has not been spared by the crisis, but at the moment the demand for real estate properties is increasing. Manor houses are the most demanded property type. Many investors coming from northern Italy – especially from Milan, Veneto and Emilia Romagna – dream of buying a farmhouse in the hinterland – with period architecture – but also newly-built villas with a plot of land and swimming pool.
The increasing demand for real estate properties is encouraging the development of the real estate market in the province of Lecce that is expected to become the “Italian Florida”.
A 19th-century 270-sqm manor house in Serrano with seven rooms with star-shaped vaults in need of renovation and a plot of land of 1300 sqm is sold for 260 thousand euros. In Serrano, it is possible to buy also an ancient 17th-century residence for 65000 euros. The village is very quiet, but it is situated next to Otranto and the beaches of Alimini. Another historical building with vaulted ceiling with a 5000-sqm plot of land in Calimera – at the very heart of Grecía Salentina – can be bought for 280 thousand euros.
The region of Salento offers appealing investment opportunities also to those who are looking for alternative investment options: in Galatina, there is an old deconsecrated church in need of renovation dating back to the 16th century that is sold for 80000 euros. Among the most interesting villages it is worth mentioning Ugento, Copertino, Acaya and Tuglie.
Manor houses and ancient farmhouses can be converted into fascinating accommodation facilities and restaurants. The sincerity and liveliness of the people of Salento, the wholesomeness of the air and the healthiness of agricultural products make Salento a pleasant place to live and the ideal destination for an amusing holiday.
