Supporting green building actions to pursue environmental sustainability goals
Making responsible decisions in the interest of environment protection
Symbola-Fondazione per le Qualità Italiane – the foundation for Italian quality - and Green Building Council Italia have signed an agreement to promote research activities and common initiatives supporting green building actions aimed at pursuing environmental sustainability goals.
The first common project they are embarking on will focus on the recently-signed Gbc Historic Buildings environmental sustainability protocol. Ermete Realacci – Symbola’s chairman – said it is an interesting green economy initiative that matches Italian vocation for quality with beauty, culture, innovation and a better quality of life. He describes the project as a ground-breaking experience that combines the enhancement of the historic building heritage with the upgrading of building security, the improvement of energy efficiency and the reduction of carbon emissions.
A 2013 GBC report shows that green building is affordable, as it can be delivered at a price comparable to conventional buildings, with more outstanding benefits, such as lower bills deriving from the significant reduction of energy consumption: a well-built house, indeed, can allow a € 1500 saving on a yearly basis.
Green Building Council Italia also works to draw up protocols that are aligned to European directives and international rating systems for the valuation of the environmental sustainability of historic buildings and neighbourhoods, which involves making responsible decisions and taking actions in the interest of environment protection, in order to reduce the negative impact of human activities on the environment and at the same time preserve the capability of the environment to support human life. Mario Zoccatelli – Gbc Italia’s president – explained that the attention is driven not only to energy efficiency, but also to water supplies, quality and environmental wellbeing.
