Italy: Automated homes will be the homes of the future. According to the latest market researches, families are more and more ready to adopt smart home living solutions to manage energy consumption efficiently and to make their home safe.
The installation of state-of-the-art technologies can put owners in control of the enviroment and security; indeed, most interventions are carried out to improve the management of the environment, to enhance security, to make communication and information devices more efficient and to fix energy-saving domestic appliances.

The final goal is to provide improved conveniences, comfort and energy efficiency.
In Italy, half of the interventions done on heating systems and household appliances are carried out to save energy and cut bills. Energy loss may be reduced by installing automated energy and heating systems. A centralized control of lighting, for example, may turn lights on and off when they are needed or switch domestic appliances off – TVs, washing machines, dishwashers, printers, scanners – when they are not used. An automated heating and air conditioning system, instead, may reduce or increase temperature according to individual needs.
While providing environmental savings, home automation enhances security. Today, the most demanded security technologies include closed-circuit television systems, automated gates, armoured windows, anti-theft and anti-intrusion devices and door access control systems that control the presence of unauthorised persons near entries.

27% of home owners in Italy have not adopted any security device for their house. Only 7% of dwellings are protected by a policy.
Investments to provide homes with security devices have increased despite the number of thefts has remained stable. Actually, the level of violent thefts and intrusions seems to have increased. According to a study carried out by the Fondazione Enzo Hruby – the only European foundation for security – families in Italy perceive a high level of risk. This is the reason why the demand of CCTV systems – with television cameras that allow monitoring the house and permit to intervene rapidly in case of danger – has risen.
The Government has been asked to grant some tax incentives to families that want to install a security system
